Barney Crockett is the Lord Provost of Aberdeen. He was nominated and selected to the post in May 2017 by members of Aberdeen City Council.
The Lord Provost is experienced in local government and has been a member of a wide range of boards in Economic Development, Higher Education, Housing and Culture.
He is currently the Vice President of the World Energy Cities Partnership, which is a non-profit organisation with member cities are globally recognised as international energy capitals.
He has been a Trustee of several Pension Funds and currently sits on the Executive Board of the UK Local Authority Pension Fund Forum.
He has worked in the offshore oil industry, a teacher and head teacher, an Ombudsman and as the Chief Executive of a charity.
Regarded as an authoritative voice on local economic affairs particularly in the international sphere he has been interviewed and appeared in the Financial Times, the Economist, the Daily Telegraph, the New York Times, Irish Times, Handelsblatt (Netherlands) and the Epoch Times. He has been interviewed for TV and radio in the UK, Norway, Italy, Japan and Switzerland. He has also featured in a CNBC documentary talking extensively about Aberdeen being a leading authority on hydrogen.
The Lord Provost is regularly invited to address international conferences and is often guest speak at key events.
He is also an active supporter of The Duke of York’s Pitch@Palace initiative, which gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to meet the people who can help make their business dreams become a reality.
On a lighter note he has appeared on national quiz shows, Mastermind and Brain of Britain.
